Im updating DCNM from 11.2.1 to 11.3.1 and got the error above at the beginning of the install. Im wondering if anyone has encountered this and if there is a workaround.

Had the same issue myself today.  The installvariables.properties file was missing from C:\Program Files\Cisco Systems\dcm\Uninstall_DCNM folder.  Luckily we were able to restore the file from a previous backup taken before the upgrade to 11.2.1 and then the upgrade worked ok

Thanks Ross. I couldn't find it in our backups. Could i get a copy of the file?

I found a copy. I think I should be good.

I have the same error.  Where do I find the file?   It is not in our backups.

Same error here while upgrading from 11.3(1) to 11.4(1)

Where can one find the file?

The action plan to resolve my issue was the following:

Action Plan

Based on my knowledge database, please follow these steps :

1. Take a snapshot of the DCNM VM

2. Take a backup of the DCNM Postgres data base

                * $Install_Dir\dcm\dcnm\bin\backup-pgsql-db.bat

                * Backup file will be placed in $Install_Dir\dcm

3. Uninstall DCNM 11.2(1)

                * The uninstaller will only remove the DCNM application and not the database

4. Re-install DCNM 11.2(1)

                * At the Database Options setup during the Install Wizard, select "Existing PostgreSQL 9.4" under RDBMS

                * You will need to specify the previous database username and password to connect.

5. Once the install of DCNM 11.2(1) completes, proceed with the Upgrade to 11.3(1)

Thank you!

This is what TAC did for us and it worked(sort of)

We had DB issues with the backup-pgsql-db.bat , it just wouldn't backup the entire DB.

Ended up using pg_dump for backup and pg_resote for restore.

Has anyone tried the approach in CSCuv78379 "DCNM upgrade - Failed to connect to DB with the following input(s)"  ?

Suggests that a script can reset the password so that the upgrade works
