Issue creating Port Group with port profile

I am having an issue creating a port group on nexus 1000v.

I create the port profile on the vsm using the following config...

port-profile type vethernet v506-openGI

  vmware port-group

  switchport mode access

  switchport access vlan 506

  no shutdown

  state enabled

vsm1# show port-profile name v506-openGI

port-profile v506-openGI
type: Vethernet
description:
status: enabled
max-ports: 32
min-ports: 1
inherit:
config attributes:
  switchport mode access
  switchport access vlan 506
  no shutdown
evaluated config attributes:
  switchport mode access
  switchport access vlan 506
  no shutdown
assigned interfaces:
  Vethernet49
  Vethernet56
port-group: v506-openGI
system vlans: none
capability l3control: no
capability iscsi-multipath: no
capability vxlan: no
capability l3-vn-service: no
port-profile role: none
port-binding: static

The port group is then learned by vmware & i add the vNIC's from 2 x VM's to the group OK.

however, i cannot then ping the default gateway & neither of the 2 vm's can ping each other?

Has anyone experienced this issue before?

thanks

Colin
