Why is VMWARE VUM update is discouraged

Why is it discouraged to use the vmware host ugrade instead of the cisco version?..

Well, I guess it depends on the circumstances.

If you are talking about a Hyperflex environment, VUM is oblivious to HX cluster health, and will take down your cluster in a heartbeat.

For NON-HX environments, VUM can be used, but you need to be selective about what drivers & updates are being applied to your baseline.

Working on a HX case that just had an outage because they applied baseline with VUM, and didn't pay attention to cluster health that was still in healing process (wasn't 100%) waited around 20 minutes, then tripped the next server reboot, and then cluster went down.

HX connect upgrade UI is a much better option for applying the ESXi upgrades, if this is for HX related nodes.
