The Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) is holding a Hackathon to encourage developers to discuss, collaborate and develop utilities, ideas, sample code and solutions that show practical implementations of IETF standards. It takes place just before IETF 92, and it¹s free and open to everyone.

Cisco and DevNet are thrilled to be working with IETF as a sponsor to put on this Hackathon. It will take place over two days just prior to the IETF meeting in Dallas at the Fairmont Dallas hotel. Attendance at the Hackathon is open to anyone with a Networking development background. A key target audience will be those attending the IETF 92 event immediately following the Hackathon.

Why is the IETF holding a Hackathon? The IETF is trying to encourage developers to discuss, collaborate and develop utilities, ideas, sample code and solutions that show practical implementations of the IETF standards.

The event starts at 9AM on Saturday with introductions to the technologies that are being used during the Hackathon. Participants will then break into teams and develop their application over the two days. You don't need to be on-site for the entire event, and refreshments will be supplied. On Sunday afternoon, each team will present their work to the rest of the teams and the judges, and then the best applications will be recognized and prizes awarded.

Technologies being featured at the Hackathon:

  • BIER (Bit Index Explicit Replication)
  • SPUD (Session Protocol Underneath Datagrams)
  • STUN/DISCUSS for congestion control on wireless networks
  • NAT Tools: https://github.com/cisco/NATTools
  • NETVC and Daala
  • Services Function Chaining (SFC) in OpenDaylight(ODL)
  • ODL/NETCONF/I2RS

Full details on these technologies are on the event page.

All you need is a knowledge of networking technologies, and you'll be guaranteed to learn something new and have fun! For more information visit out IETF Hackathon Event page: https://developer.cisco.com/site/ietf-hackathon.
