Developer Labs: Access or Build Your Own Cisco Collaboration Product Development Environment

Cisco has a broad portfolio of API-driven technologies and products to choose from as a developer, representing some of the most advanced and powerful software and hardware solutions on earth.  But while exploring documents, SDKs and sample code on developer.cisco.com is easy, taking the next step towards actually writing and testing working code requires a development lab environment!

High-end business solution products are often complex and expensive to acquire, and may have powerful and complex capabilities that may need knowledgeable support staff to configure and troubleshoot.  Below are some options and offers for getting access to Cisco collaboration products for your development project:

No Cost, Instant Access: DevNet Sandbox

The DevNet Sandbox is a great way to kick-the-tires with Cisco collaboration APIs via online, fully-configured, VPN-accessible labs.  Most development lab offerings are free, and lab support is available in the Sandbox forums.

Featured labs:

  • UC Endpoint Lab - This 'aways on' lab is always-on and instantly accessible, providing client/endpoint services for Cisco Unified Communicatins Manager, CUCM IM & Presence, Cisco Jabber Guest and Cisco Remote Expert Mobile.  Developers can provision and register new user and endpoint devices (such as Jabber soft clients, or Cisco IP phones) via lab Sandbox commands, then connect to the lab via VPN and start coding against user/client APIs such as Jabber Web SDK, Jabber Guest, UDS, CAXL, RE Mobile and much more.
  • Collaboration/Collaboration Plus Labs - These reservable labs (available for multiple UC product versions) can be accessed for dedicated, flexible development.  Developers receive full administrative access to a 2-node CUCM cluster, including Cisco IM & Presence services, enabling all APIs and features to be configured and tested.  Local development machines, applications and equipment can be attached to the lab environment by software or router-based Cisco AnyConnect VPN.  Voice call traffic generation tools are available in the Collaboration Plus lab.

More Labs: new labs are added frequently, to-date including Cisco MediaSense, Cisco Contact Center Enterprise, Jabber Guest, Remote Expert Mobile, and WebEx

Membership Benefits: Partner Not-for-Resale (NFR) Offerings

If you're serious about developing with Cisco and ready to build-out your own in-house lab environment, members of the Cisco Solutions Partner Program can order Cisco products and equipment at a big discount (up to 80% off) or grab an extensive downloadable bundle of collaboration software via online purchase (21+ products, including software upgrades and TAC support):

  • Not-for-Resale Discount Program - This program allows Solution Partners to purchase Cisco hardware and software products at varying discounts up to 80%, depending on geography and technology, for use in labs and demonstration systems.  (Requires SPP membership and minimum requirements.  Software upgrade and technical support (TAC) services are not eligible for NFR discounts.)
  • Collaboration Partner NFR Bundle - This low-cost, downloadable software bundle can help quickly build-out a virtual Cisco collaboration lab, including 21+ Cisco Unified Communications products such as Cisco Unified Communications Manager, Cisco IM & Presence, Cisco Unity Connection, and many more.  The NFR bundle includes a 1-year support contract, for access to continuing software updates and product TAC support.

DevNet Developer Support

Once you have your Cisco collaboration lab up and running, ongoing help is available for API/SDK questions via DevNet Developer Support.  Post a question via the searchable API discussions forum, or open a DevNet support ticket for dedicated, response-time-guaranteed assistance from our team of API engineers.

(Note: non-SPP member developers can purchase retail Cisco products and services via the Cisco Commerce Workspace or their local Cisco reseller partner)
