Hi
I reviewed several posts with regards to sending serial commands using the USB port on the C20

Does anyone the serial IR commands sent between the Cisco remote control and the camera/codec?  Since the C20 doesn't have a RS2323 9 pin interface I would to know if the IR commands are documented?  I would like to send commands to a Crestron controller
Thank you
john

I'd assume the IR commands are the same as those for the other codecs in the C-series. I'd also venture to guess these are the same (or at least useable enough) as those for the MXP.

Understanding there is no available DB9/Serial port, why not control the deveice via LAN? It's essentially the same (if not identical) protocol/API.

Brian.

Hi Brian,  First of all thank you for responding.  I'm only aware of sending serial commands from the Crestron Controller to a physical port (RS232-dB9)or IR (Remote Control signals) on the C40.  But since the C20 doesn't have the RS232 interface my only knowledge is sending IR commands.  Can you explain how to send commands to/From Crestron/Cisco C20 over the LAN?  Maybe a CCO doc or something from Crestron?  This will solve my trouble to control the Codec using a Crestron Controller.  Thank you -John

The special Y-cable gets connected
to the camera port and fans out in a connector for the camera and a DB9 for a serial async device. There is an ordering code for this Y-cable.

I did not realize there was this DB9 dongle cable. Good to know! Thanks, Danny.

You can get the IP module here:
http://developer.cisco.com/web/telepresence-developer/integrator-modules/crestron-codec-c60c90
it says'C60 and C90', butI've used this with the C20 as well. Some of the hardware functions obviously won't apply, but otherwise it works great.

You could also use Crestron's serial module(s) by routing the tx/rx through a TCP/IP client. I had to do this a long time ago, and my recollection is that upon TCP/IP connect you'll need to "manually" enter the telnet log-in info. Not a big deal, but you may as well just use the above module.

The partnumber for the C20 cable is CAB-C20-RS232-DBG=

Hi Danny, Thank you for the Part Number of the cable.  The Million dollar question is to find the Serial Commands permitted using the USB port and cable to communicate between control products such as Crestron and AMX.  Are they the same as a C40 with a RS232 interface?  Are the serial commands noted in a CCO document?  This information would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you -John

Hi Brian, Are you familiar with the commands to control a C Series Codec over the LAN?  If so, is there documentation on Cisco or Crestron's Web Sites? Thank you -John

John,
The IR would be the last thing you should use to control the Cisco/TANDBERG devices. You should either use Serial (as discussed how to get working on C-20 (similiar solution, although different Y-cable for SX20)) OR use IP. There are modules for Crestron for both Serial and IP. the IP version requires to enable telnet on the codec but once enabled the programming will be EXACTLY the same for IP as it is for Serial (only difference will be the connection logic in the crestron program).
Using IR commands over Serial/IP is also discouraged. All functionality is available on the API as commands, configurations, statuses and events.

Cheers,
David

Hi David,
I appreciate the feedback.  Where can I locate the Telnet module for Crestron and a C20/SX20?
Thank you
John

Right here on this site: http://developer.cisco.com/web/telepresence-developer/integrator-modules/crestron-codec-c60c90
Its not documented but it supports the C20 and SX20 too.
