Hello

Welcome to the June 2016 edition of the DevNet Update, your connection to Cisco DevNet and Cisco's Developer technologies. There's never been a better time to join DevNet!

Best regards

The DevNet team

Here's what you'll find in this issue:

Apple + Cisco DevNet = Better Together
The recent WWDC announcement of iOS 10 is exciting news! What's even more exciting is that Apple and Cisco have been working together to optimize the user experience of iOS devices that run on Cisco networks.

But what does this mean to developers? It means that Apple and Cisco DevNet are giving you the tools to create even better apps that work well on enterprise networks and giving network and IT admins and operators the ability to seamlessly manage iOS devices, apps, and data as part of their network and IT environment. Geek out on all the QoS, Cisco Spark, and iOS 10 SDK details in Susie Wee's latest blog. Dig into our learning and coding resources and find out how our APIs can help you digitally transform your business using these links:

  • Cisco SDKs for iOS Developers
Here you'll find everything you need to integrate your iOS apps with Cisco services! Sign up for Cisco Spark beta access that will enable you to use Cisco Spark services within mobile apps. Read more about Tropo APIs, Jabber Guest SDK, Cisco Instant Connect SDK, CMX SDK, RE Mobile SDK, and Open H.264 SDK.
  • Learning and Coding Resources
Dig into DevNet Learning Labs - Free learning (only DevNet registration is required), self-paced labs that walk you through everything from coding 101 and networking 101 to deep dives into Cisco APIs. See below for new and updated learning labs - just released!

Inspiring the Next Generation of Innovators with DevNet STEAM
Give a warm welcome to our new community, DevNet STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math)! DevNet STEAM is aimed at inspiring and encouraging the next generation of innovators and bringing kids more STEAM learning opportunities.

We officially launched the community at the Bay Area Maker Faire in May with an IoT workshop where we made magic happen with drones and collaboration devices. Kids of all ages were able to join a workshop and build their first IoT application. DevNet STEAM wants to keep the magic alive, keep every kid curious and excited about STEAM. Join the DevNet STEAM Community and help us inspire kids as they grow and learn.

Get Your Network Traffic Roaring with TRex
Does viewing a diagram with a couple of networks connected with routers, switches, and firewalls mean your physical/virtual network works as it should? Of course not, you need traffic and TRex can help. TRex began as an open source project started by Cisco. It's a low cost, stateful and stateless traffic generator fuelled by data plane development kit (DPDK). In Stateful mode, it generates client and server side L4-7 traffic based on pre-processing and smart replay of real traffic templates. In Stateless mode, it can generate multiple streams at line rate and calculate statistics per stream/per interface. Check out the new site that gives you the resources you need!
