Jabber IM for Android

Hi,

Is there an IM (old Connect) client for Android? I see the Jabber (old Mobile) but not an IM client. The one for the IPhone is confusing as well as I deleted the iphone Jabber client thinking they were duplicates only to figure out I deleted the IM client and left the Mobile client on, I had to re-download the Jabber IM.

Anyway, can someone point me to a IM client for the Android.

Thanks,

Bob James

Bob,

I asked a member of our Jabber team for information about an IM client for Android.  He told me there isn't one now, and he suggested you try back mid-next year for an update.

I hope that helps.

Hi Kelli,

Could you also please find out if and when we can expect to see a Connect client for Windows Mobile?

Thanks,

Anthony

Anthony,

This blog may answer your question regarding Connect for Windows Mobile: http://blogs.cisco.com/collaboration/learning-more-about-cisco-jabber/

According to the last response posted at the end of May, Cisco does "not currently have solutions for Windows Phone 7. Cisco Unified Mobile Communicator supports Windows Mobile 6.x."

Hi Jiri,

We're in the process of developing Jabber IM for Android for smartphones, which is targeted for 2HCY12.  We're targeting to make it available in Beta in the next month or so.

Thanks,

Rena

Hello rchhit,

How might one get on the beta list for this new client?

Thanks

Hi Christopher,

In order to access the beta, you must first join the Collaboration User Group.  Go to  www.cisco.com/go/cug and click the Join Now button in the User Group Membership box on the right side of the page.  Complete the user group Member Profile.  This will take 5 – 10 minutes.  You must click submit at the end of the profile to complete the registration processAfter submitting your member profile, you will be redirected back to the Cisco User Groups page.

Once you've joined the Collaboration User Group, go to the overview tab of the Private Collaboration User Group community space.  Scroll down to the Beta Trial Opportunities widget.  Click on Cisco Jabber for Android (Step 1 box) --> Beta Requirements and Application (step 2 box) --> Apply for the Beta (Step 3 box).

Please allow 1 - 2 business days for us to process the application.

Thanks,

Lisa

Lisa,

Is this Beta still open for testing?  I recently created my CUG account but cannot locate a link for the trial.

Thanks,

Chris

Hi Chris,

Jabber for Android 9.0 can be found in GooglePlay. There is an older version (8.6) on Cisco.com software download site.  The older version was moved there in order to satisfy users that want Secure Connect but not the new features in version 9.0.

The Jabber IM for Android software is still in development and its not yet available for Beta. We are planning to do a Beta trial, but don't yet know when.

Thanks,

Lisa

How would be apply to be included in the beta program?

Hi Scott,

Thank you for your feedback.  I know many clients feel as you do and our product development teams are expeditiously working towards a release for Jabber IM for Android.

At this time, the Jabber IM for Android software is still in development and not yet available for Beta. We are planning to do a Beta trial, but don't yet know when.

Currently, Jabber for Android 9.0 can be found in GooglePlay. There is an older version (8.6) on Cisco.com software download site.  The older version was moved there in order to satisfy users that want Secure Connect but not the new features in version 9.0.
