802.11k in multi-controller network

Hey Cisco,

When will the "single WLC only" AirOS requirement for 802.11k be lifted?

Also, Can you clarify what the consequences of enabling 802.11k in a multi-controller environment are? Will clients who roam across controllers fall-back to traditional roaming? Or, are the consequences something worse?

I run a large wireless network at a healthcare provider and clinical staff are using iOS devices for critical patient care and voice applications.. Enabling 802.11k is very desirable in our environment and I feel hamstrung by Cisco's current (lack of) support.

From 8.0 Configuration guide:

"• This feature must be implemented only if you are using one controller. The assisted roaming feature is not supported across multiple controllers."

Thanks,

Pete

Spoken to Pete offline last week.

Today 11k is supported only per controller, however the AP neighbors communicated to the client may work in RF vicinity of the mobility group. We plan to test this functionality shortly and get back.

Otherwise clients who roam across controllers will fall-back to traditional roaming with 11r.

Any update on this? We are looking into enabling the option in a multi-controller environment. Most APs in a given area have their primary/secondary/tertiary controllers balanced so they are all on the same one. Can you provide any feedback on issues we may run into?
