CUBE / SRST question

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone can confirm that the following can work:

ISR gateway 29xx or 39xx series with CUBE and SRST licensing on it, as normal operation I would like it to function as a CUBE - PSTN connectivity is over SIP trunk, but in case that SIP trunk / wan is not available I want the SRST functionality so that calls to PSTN are routed over 1FL/analog lines.

I have heard that cisco recently started to support this configuration, but cannot find any documentation confirming this.

Please help,

Thank you,

Stan

Q: Will SRST work on CUBE ?

A: Yes, SRST and CUBE can be co-located on the same router

Thanks

If this is a voice gateway collocated with Cisco Unified Communications Manager, then you don't need SRST. Route group with the Cube first and FXO next should work. Unless I misunderstood...

this particular CUBE/SRST ISR will be located at remote site not where CUCM cluster is located, so in case mpls link is not available sip service won't be available as well - service provider provides sip service over mpls network/same infrastructure. So I'm wondering if phones can go into SRST mode on this CUBE/ISR as they normally would if wan connectivity is not available and once wan connectivity is restored switch back to CUCM and routing of calls over sip trunk at this remote location.

Sure if SRST licensing is available then you can fall back to that router and route using dial peers over POTS lines. I never thought this was a recent configuration something that always was supported

Thanks

thanks guys, but any document describing this as a working solution? I've seen few deployment scenarios from Cisco but all have either CUBE or SRST gateways and not one combined scenario.

Thank you so much, this is exactly what I needed to confirm!

Hello Friends,

I haven´t seen any ISR configuration about it, but when I have got it, that is a little confuse.

Topology

UCM server>IP network>CUBE>SIP Trunk>ITSP

  • Is it necessary to set up the sip-server under sip-ua?
  • What type of ip address or network should i specify under ip trusted list?
  • What type of ip address or network should i specify under ip route?
  • What type of ip address should i specify under the dial-peers?
  • Can I set up the CUBE as MGCP to UCM?

Do you have any clear ISR example you can show?

Claudio,

I recommend you also post this to the Cisco Support Community for more feedback and information. In addition, I found a number of helpful resources when I did an internet search on "CUBE isr configuration."

I hope this helps. Please post back here if you have more questions.

To All

Critical clarification required on this email thread.   At this point in time, September, 2016, we do not claim support for interworking of CUBE and SRST on the same platform, either ISR-G2 or ISR4K.

It is possible to run CUBE and SRST on the same platform simultaneously, which can be referred to as co-residency.   That is available.

However, CUBE and SRST interworking on the same platform is NOT currrently supported.    To achieve support, we are trying to get a development project approved, which would deliver support for this interworking in 2nd half of CY17.

If a use tried to have CUBE and SRST inter-working with the existing IOS code base, only about 70% of the call flows would work properly.   While 70% may seem like a high level of support, it also means that 30% of call flows probably would not work.   As such, any individual customer is very likely to find an error in their call flows.

The value of CUBE/SRST inter-working is well recognized by the Product Management team, so we do seek to execute this development project.   But, as of now, September 2016, this functionality is not supported.

Hi Friends,

As jvickroy said, a CUBE and SRST interworking on the same platform is NOT currrently supported. CUBE provides a network-to-network demarcation interface, e.g. security, topology hiding, transcoding, call admission control, protocol normalization and SIP registration.

If you want to implement SRST service in your voice network, you should consider a separated platform.

Hi,

Does Cisco support CME or ESRST (or "CME as SRST") interworking with CUBE?

Not right now as per TME

Thanks

Srini

What if we configured CME in Failover mode as opposed to SRST?

Ignore my previous question, I see it was answered
