SRP - Problem attending WebEx meetings / be remote controlled

Hi.

From time to time our users (and me included :-) ) have a need for participating in a WebEx meeting or somebody need to remote control their screen. (We are not remote controlling other PCs nor hosting WebEx meetings.) As we are not local admin and we are using Microsoft Software Restriction Policy (SRP), users can not attend / be remote controlled (normally an add-on has to be installed and it will often be installed under %userprofile%). To let the users attend WebEx meetings / allow remote control, I hope there is a way we can install software and avoid IE / Firefox to ask for admin permission.

As we are using SRP, the software needs to be installed in predefined areas (c:\program file\ - not under %userprofile%). Our OS is Windows 7 64bits – patched up the latest version of IE / Firefox.

Hopefully the following questions can be answered:

1: Is there a MSI file (for silent installation) we can download which will pre-install the needed add-ons for IE / Firefox?

2: Is the software backwards compatible (my understanding is that different companies use different versions of WebEx?) Will the newest one support the older or do I have to install all versions?

3: Is there a description of how to deploy / set up the “WebEx client” in a restricted / secure environment?

Any advice is highly appreciated

Best regards
Harald

Sure: you'll want to implement the "temporary folder solution" [TFS] in your WebEx site admin for primary client download method.

Use your preferred software distribution/deployment enterprise tool to deliver this installer to your preferred browser(s) of choice.

Please let me know if this answers your question/give it a try. If not please let me know,

Productivity tools is designed to be backwards [and forwards] compatible +/- 1 major releases [eg PT tools for T31 will work for T30, T31, T32]

The WX client is major release specific, so to join a T30, T31, and T32, you will need to the T30, T31, and T32 client executables for your browser.

We dont have a 'TFS' deployment guide that I have seen but I believe our kb.webex.com site has a few articles, and there is also our 'mass deployment of productivity tools' guide that you can reference for a similar process.

Hi Joe,

I am recently seeing the TFS coming every time users host or join the meeting. I worked with the Desktop team and got admin rights to the PC and ran this TFS once and still it did not work. Also ran the prepare your desktop first time steps. Even that did not resolved. What could be done to fix this issue of TFS pop up every time we use WebEx?

Oh! Firefox/64-bit and the edge browser environments are the main reasons to go with the TFS solution

For IE/Chrome/Firefox-32, the MSI solution is the preferred method.

Apologies for that confusion

I'd recommend following the mass deployment guide above and using the MSI method given your requirements [win7/IE]

To obtain the MSI file for distribution, find it in the /meeting center/downloads area of your WebEx site

However many of my customers are wanting a solution without needing admin rights to install webex. TFS is one way but I don’t think is a solution with external folks joining my meetings who don’t have admin rights

Web app is one Option but until it supports sharing can’t solve all scenarios

Is there another option here, I realize updating PT tools doesn’t need Admin rights

Thanks

Srini

Yea the 3rd party scenarios are challenging such as when the MSI cant be pushed in advance to all users.

I believe WebApp is the solution--- please note we recently released sharing support for WebApp both in Meeting Center and Event Center so please give that a shot.

Thank you,

~Joe

When did that get officially released? I know webapp support for EC is sort of beta and only for attendees but sharing I thought is still no there

Cisco WebEx Web App Version 3.2 | Cisco Cloud Collaboration Help Central

32.7 has the presenter/host in Meeting Center WebApp as 'Generally available'

For Event Center I was mistaken: it is participant only at this point and we expect to have event center presenter/host soon. You can put in a request for Event Center WebApp participant feature to be turned on w/32.7 as well

We are also back-porting this capabality to T31 lockdown at the same time

Thanks for confirming it’s imminent
