ISE 2.3 - Compatibility with New Cisco 3504 WLC

ISE Experts,

I am an Escalation VSE in the Enterprise Networks practice of the Cisco Global Virtual Engineering Technology Solutions Network. In the ISE 2.3 Cisco Identity Services Engine Network Component Compatibility, in Table 3 (Wireless LAN Controllers [WLC]), it doesn't list the new Cisco 3504 WLC. The customer wants to be able to use ISE Guest Portal (Self-Registration) for wireless clients and limit guest users to 30 minutes of access per day.

Cisco Identity Services Engine Network Component Compatibility, Release 2.3 - Cisco

The 3504 WLC FCS'ed with AireOS 8.5 software. Here are my questions:

Q1. Has the 3504 WLC been tested and validated by the BU with ISE 2.3?

Q2. If yes, what release of AireOS on the 3504 WLC was tested and validated by the BU?

Q3. If no, when will the 3504 WLC be supported with ISE?

Thank you.

Regards,

Jeff

The code is the same as other wireless controllers running 8.5, keep in mind we might not test all platforms for same code

You also are welcome to open a defect to make sure the guide gets updated. With this defect I will bring this up to our documentation and testing team

Jason,

Can you send me the link to open up a defect so I can request that the 3504 WLC be added to the compatibility document?

Regards,

Jeff

Your assumption is correct on the code support.

If you’re not aware of how to open defects then don’t worry about it I will forward along

Jason,

Thank you for the confirmation as well as opening a defect for me. Take care and have a great afternoon

Jeff

Hi Jason,

The compatibility matrix has not been update yet:

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/security/ise/2-3/compatibility/ise_sdt.html

And I can see that his thread is from 8th of January? Any reason why this has not been updated?

Many thanks!

Kind regards,

Matea Rencelj

As stated before it hasn't been officially tested but is running same code as other hardware and is supported.

If you have any further problems or concerns please reach out to the ISE Product management team through sales channels with your requirements

Jason,

Thank you for your assistance. So it would be safe to say that since the 5520 WLC shows compatibility validation using AireOS 8.5.1.x and 8.6.1.x with ISE 2.3, then there should be no problems with the 3504 WLC since both can support 8.5.1.x and 8.6.1.x AireOS software?

Jeff

Hi,

I just asked our testing team to procure this WLC (as well as the 5520 & 8540) in order to test them with ISE.

I believe that we will update the matrices once we'll get all the equipment and test it.

Tal.

Tal,

Thank you so much.

Hi Tal,

Can you update the testing result and officially update the compatibility matrix for Cisco 3504 WLC with Cisco ISE 2.3 it has been ages now.

Hope to see progress on this.
