Cisco ASA 5515-X Hardware Versions

Hello,

I just picked up 2x Cisco ASA 5515-X firewalls. At the time I thought they were identical, but there are some differences. One model has V01 on the sticker, in sh ver it is showing with 4GB Flash and running ASA 8.6(1)2. The second model is V04 and showing 8GB Flash with ASA 9.1(2) running.

Internally they look very similar, with just some very minor subtle differences.

My main question though is, I bought these two to run in an Active/Standby pair. My plan was to upgrade both to v9.9.2 latest software, but all documents I read suggest the hardware must be identical, such as Flash size. One is showing 4GB and the other 8GB. I can't find anywhere online that sells an 8GB Flash module upgrade. Looking on the motherboards they appear to be a little plugin module. Neither ASA's have an SSD fitted.

What are my options? Is an 8GB Flash module available to buy? If it is, would the hardware revision (V01 and V04) cause a problem with using Active/Standby configuration?

Thank you!

Hi Richard,

Im pretty sure if the only diffrence are the flash, then you wont hit any issues with an active/standby setup - anyhow, take a look at ebay regarding the flash

Thanks - Do you think the hardware revision changes could cause any unforeseen issues, perhaps?

I had a look on eBay and scoured the web, but I couldn't find any flash modules for the X series. There's tons of Compact Flash cards, for the previous gen, but I couldn't find any of these special little plugin modules.

Any ideas please?
