End of life notices for VPIM and SRSV features on UMG (Unified Messaging Gateway)
We would like to announce the transition plan and end of life milestones for two features on the Unified Messaging Gateway (UMG) product. These changes affect Cisco’s overall voice mail solution delivery.
Features affected –
VPIM was part of UMG 1.0, and was designed to be a central hub in a large voice mail messaging network. Over time, the critical VPIM features were absorbed into Cisco Unity Connection (CUC) and Cisco Unity Express (CUE). While CUC and CUE are not direct replacements for the UMG-VPIM feature set, they can directly interact with other VPIM-compatible messaging products. Our recommendation is to use either CUC or CUE for VPIM interoperability.
SRSV was introduced in UMG 8.0, and was our solution for voice mail survivability. During WAN failures, SRSV provided local voice mail and auto-attendant capabilities, and later seamlessly synchronized the voice messages to the central site.
We are transitioning the SRSV survivability and synchronization features from UMG and SRSV modules directly to Unity Connection. This will help us in several ways –
Additionally, to resemble the current SRSV branch hardware footprint, this flavor of Unity Connection will be supported on the SRE.
The key dates are –

When will CUC come out with the SRSV feature?

Our current target is 2nd half of Calendar year 2012. But, like all targets, this is subject to change ;-)

Is there any information that can be shared on architectures, licensing? If the UMG is eliminated where does the license now move?
Thanks

UMG wouldn't be eliminated - you will still need it for SRST.
We are still working out some of the architectual/design considerations, but for licensing, we will likely license it on the home Unity Connection server (centralized Connection server), or alternatively the enterprise license manager server.

On a side note the comments above were specific to SRSV, how does this impact E-SRST. Since that functionality is not relevant to Uconn, how will that propogate?

E-SRST will continue to use UMG for provisioning enhanced SRST functionality on the router today.
We are virtualizing the E-SRST software ( roadmap item) which will enable you to host the E-SRST software on any UCS server or UCS express blade
