Discovery issue with Version mismatch APIC and switches

Hi,

We have ordred a fabric ACI with APIC M4 version 6.0(3d) and leaf/spine with 15.2(8).

In the discovery step, the switches still inactive on the APIC until we upgrade it manually via USB to 16.0(3d) version!

Note that the APIC M4, it supports the 6.0 version or later so we can not downgrade it.

The question is: to perform the discovery, do we have to manually update all the switches via USB? It doesn't make sense!

Any solution please? you can find attached the output of #show discoveryissue command

hi team,

according to the logs, the image verification PASSED, seems you have other reasons not related to image

Check 4 Node Version

================================================================================

Test01 Check Current Version                                               PASSED

      [Info] Node current running version is : n9000-15.2(8d)

===============================================================

I can see the wiring issue is different, if you use port 1/54 for the leaf linked with APIC, it's important to note that usually, the last four ports are configured as uplink by default. This implies that you will only be able to link them with the spine

as for the main question, there is no limitation regard the APIC version mismatch with switches for more information refer to the release note
https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/dcn/aci/apic/6x/release-notes/cisco-apic-release-notes-603.html

Thank you for your response,

There was a limitation related to auto firmware update for these versions:

"Auto firmware update on switch discovery is not supported when the target switch release is 16.0(3) or
later while the current release running on the switch is 15.2(7) or earlier or 16.0(1) or 16.0(2). If auto
firmware update on switch discovery was attempted under this condition, the switch may get stuck
indefinitely. To add the switch into the fabric from that state, you must perform a clean reboot after you
disable auto firmware update on switch discovery on the Cisco ApplicationPolicy Infrastructure Controller
(APIC)."
