I never really paid attention to the overdraft licenses until today, when I installed a license that actually does not cover all the VEMs. The display still shows, all VEMs are licensed by using 2 overdraft licenses, which obviously are part of the license file.

How are overdraft licenses used?

Ignaz,
The overdraft license is a temporary feature used to assist customer who exceed their permanent or evaluation licenses during a server migration. They are NOT to be used in place of full licenses as the full functionality of overdraft license may change between version (possibly providing a sub-set of features in future releases). There is no functional gaurantees with overdraft licenses, meaning if you have a support related issue, the VEM in question must be fully licensed or support may be denied.
There some additional (though limited) information in the licensing guide.

Robert

Thank you Robert
I did read the paragraph in the license guide but unfortunately it does not talk about the validity scope of overdraft licenses. Your answer shed some light on this. You know if there is a time limit?
Cheers

At this time there is no time limit on the overdraft license. Just be very wary about overdrafting licenses across different versions (upgrades).

I see you do not have a VEM 4, you may have had one previously. Can you also run the following command:
svs license transfer src-vem 4 license_pool
no vem 4
show license usage
Please also provide the following outputs/info:
-The 1000v Version being used
show module
show module vem mapping
show module vem license-info
show module vem missing
show run | inc vem
If the above doesn't resolve, please reload the VSM. This may cause a VERY brief disruption to traffic, but if all your system VLANs are set correctly there should be little impact. After the reload, please provide a fresh set of the above commands here.

Robert

Hi Robert,
i have transfered licenses to License Pool and deleted the vem.
But still i see
Overdraft Licenses in Use : 2
Do i need to call back vem again and assign licese to it from pool?
i didnt clear lic after transferring license to pool from vem 9, is it required ?

Kiran

Kiran,
Yes if you previously had a VEM 9, do the same procedure for that module as above.

Hi robert,
i have a question on overdraft too.
I have installed 64 permanent licenses for 9x2 socket on VEM = 18 license needed. This is the output :

But i'm a little bit worried about the 16 overdraft licenses i see in the output, even no one is used. ( differently from Kiran's case)
The overdraft will be used only if i exceed the 64 license , is it correct ?
The avaliable licence is the sum of installed (64) + overdraft ( 16) = 80 , minus the installed in use (18) = 62.
So i've not overdraft licenses in use, and at the default eval days left = 24 days, all the 18 licenses will be still in use as permanent, is it right ?
Overdraft are not the evaluation licenses .. is it right ?
Is there a manner to show per VEM the kind of license used ?
I hope the license installed on my 9 VEM are permanent...
