Hi,

I am trying to upgrade Nexus 93180YC-EX to EPLD 9.3.7.

In impact testing it shows that IO FPGA will be upgraded, however, after upgrade when i check this it wouldn't show as upgraded.

(Following output is from 2nd try)

SWH01# install epld bootflash:n9000-epld.9.3.7.img module all
Compatibility check:
Module Type Upgradable Impact Reason
------ ----------------- ---------- ---------- ------
1 SUP Yes disruptive Module Upgradable

Retrieving EPLD versions... Please wait.

Images will be upgraded according to following table:
Module Type EPLD Running-Version New-Version Upg-Required
------ ---- ------------- --------------- ----------- ------------
1 SUP MI FPGA 0x04 0x04 No
1 SUP IO FPGA 0x03 0x15 Yes
The above modules require upgrade.
The switch will be reloaded at the end of the upgrade
Do you want to continue (y/n) ? [n] y

Proceeding to upgrade Modules.

Starting Module 1 EPLD Upgrade

Module 1 : IO FPGA [Programming] : 100.00% ( 64 of 64 sectors)
Module 1 EPLD upgrade is successful.
Module Type Upgrade-Result
------ ------------------ --------------
1 SUP Success

EPLDs upgraded.

Module 1 EPLD upgrade is successful.

Reseting Active SUP (Module 1) FPGAs. Please wait...

Following a reboot, when i check the epld, it shows me this:

SWH01# sh version module 1 epld

EPLD Device Version
---------------------------------------
MI   FPGA      0x4
IO   FPGA     0x3

IO should be 0x15.

I have read about upgrading the EPLD with golden image, However, it does not give option for this.

Not sure what I am doing wrong here.

I would really appreciate any help in this please

Hi D.Zeb,

The 'golden' could be hidden or won't show up when you tab or "?".

Can you try to enter the command below:

install epld bootflash:n9000-epld.9.3.7.img module all golden

This particular update requires both the primary and secondary images to be upgraded. It's a security vulnerability fix.

The documentation is here:

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/datacenter/nexus9000/sw/93x/epld-rn/nxos_n9K_epldRN_935.html

As seen at the bottom of the page, the way to upgrade to golden. Must upgrade secondary first, reboot, and then upgrade golden and reboot again and it will be fixed.
