New C9300L-48P-4X enter to rommon mode since first power on

Hi  Everyone !!

we have a new C9300L-48P-4X ,  since the first time we powered it on went in rommon mode, after running boot command in rommon mode switch reload fine.

The original version  was 17.7.X and we upgraded to 17.9.3 but when switch reload to finish upgrade process once again enter in rommon mode.

we tried the following:

no boot system
boot system flash:packages.conf
no boot manual
write memory
reload

but once again switch enter in  rommon mode even with option "no boot manual".

We have to type boot in rommon mode so that switch reload correctly.

I show the following info as reference.

SW-10#sh boot

BOOT variable = flash:packages.conf;

Hello @filiberto.aguirre,

Check your config-register command--- it should be config-register 0x2102

Best regards

Hi @filiberto.aguirre

I advise you to upgrade the rommon

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/catalyst9300/software/release/17-9/release_notes/ol-17-9-9300/upgrading_the_switch_software.html#concept_ycv_jdf_3mb

As you have the command "no boot manual" and "MANUAL_BOOT=no" the switch should not go to rommon after reload anymore.

If the switch is booting with the command boot this means the IOS is ok but something is not right with the switch. In case you upgrade the rommon and you still see this behavior I would remmmend to replace the switch.

Hi Flavio,

Thanks for your recommendations, I show you the results  after upgrading.

SW-10#upgrade rom-monitor capsule golden switch active r0

This operation will reload the switch and take a few minutes to complete. Do you want to proceed (y/n)? [confirm]y
