How to register Wireless Phone 840 and 860

Hi All,

We are planning to upgrade our current CME 2900 series with a newer Cisco 8200 series. Additionally, we are also looking to replace our existing Cisco 8821 wireless phones with the newer Wireless Phone 840 and 860 models.

I'm curious if the new wireless phones can be registered with our CME Cisco 8200 Series, or if they require CUCM instead. If they can be registered with CME, could someone provide instructions on how to do so?

Thanks in advance!

The datasheets most usually contain call control compatibility, have you reviewed them?

Thank you for your quick reply,

Yes I reviewed them and they mentioned only CUCM https://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/cuipph/800-series/deployment/840_860_wlandg.pdf

Since the 8821 is at the end of its life with what we will replace it to register a wireless phone with CME.

If it's not compatible, then there is no 1:1 replacement. Easy as that.

Call Control
The Cisco Wireless Phone 840 and 860 are supported on the following call control platforms.

even Cme 14.1 doesn't list 840 and 860.

Not supported.

I recommend considering Webex Calling as the CME replacement instead of CUCM. It’s easier, certainly cheaper than new router/server hardware, and is receiving far more development than CME/CUCM at this point. Your Cisco partner should be able to assist with a trial.
