What are the advantages of SDN controller ?

For network virtualization , SDN controller can be used along with Openstack. Openstack does just orchestration and where as SDN controller is used for programming the switches with openflow rules to enable L2/L3 services.

Even without SDN controller also L2/L3 services can be enabled.

I want to understand what is benefit of SDN controller ?

What additional benefits we get if SDN controller is used to enable L2/L3 services instead of openstack services ?

     I believe you missed right thread, because we don't have L2/L3 SDN in CloudCenter.
