[Q] Re-hosting required?

HI,

I have a question about ISE 2.1.

Is a re-host/re-install procedure required when recover from HW failure?

We don't need to re-host/re-install a license in the following case, right?

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/security/ise/2-1/admin_guide/b_ise_admin_guide_21/b_ise_admin_guide_20_chapter_01011.html#ID787 (Recovery of a Node Using Existing IP Address and Hostname in a Standalone Deployment)

Thanks in advance,

Kazuhiro

Whenever a new VM is installed/added a new SN is created and assigned.

Look at the Administration > System > Licensing page.  Scroll to the bottom, if the Serial Number (SN) is different, then re-host the license.  If on your Secondary Admin Node, then log in to CLI and run the show inventory command.  Not the Serial Number.  If it is different, then re-host.

If the hardware failure is on a node that is NOT a Primary or Secondary Admin Node, then you do not need to re-host, as only the Admin Node SNs are tied to the licenses.

Thank you for your helpful response!

In my understanding, SN must be changed after HW replacement s.t. SNS-3595,

so we must re-host the license after HW replacement of primary/secondary admin node, right?

How about if admin node is run on ESXi?

Thanks in advance,

Kazuhiro
