I have noticed that in CCM 4.0(x) through CCM 4.1(2)SR1
that the newer style of just assigning entries without
a "First Name" keeps the "Corporate Directory" from
displaying those entries when searched.
Now, directory "hiding" seems to be changing, again.
In a 4.1(3) fresh install, it seems like the only way
to "hide" is to use the older LDAP method versus using
the "first name" method which was easier for end-user
maintenance.
A 4.1(3) fresh install with the SR1 upgrade also seems
to display entries lacking "first name" information.
A upgraded 4.1(3) system from a previous 4.x installation
seems to work either way (LDAP or First Name).
Is the "first name" method of "hiding" users in the
corporate directory going away?

1) If all 3 of the following factors are true, the user is hidden:
[Users--->Global Directory-->Search--->Click on user]
If nothing is filled out for the "Telephone Number" field
If nothing is filled out for the "Manager User ID" field
If nothing is filled out for the "Department" field
2) If you change the object description in Call Manager to read: CiscoPrivateUser or CiscoPABUser it won't show up.

This does not hold true for 4.13SR1. I am experiencing the same problem as above. All fields you have mentioned are blank, and I have both manually and via the script changed the description field to CiscoPrivateUser. The user still shows up in Global Directory. I have a TAC case open and they are working on it.

You would hope that Cisco would stick to a single method of working wouldn't you.
Personaly I prefer the 'leave the first name blank' approach, as there is no mucking about, there's no name so don't display it!
Why not try raising a TAC case about it? Then post back the incredibly inane reason given by the TAC engineer as to why it's been changed, just so we can all throw our hand up in the air in exasperation at either the release of SR2 (which you can take full credit for!) or the demise of a really useful way of hiding names.
