Hello Cisco community!

My enquiry at the moment is regarding bgp keepalive and hold time. If between two routers that communicates BGP , let name them as Ashburn and London.  Ashbrun bgp timer is being set at 5 15 meanwhile London's bgp timer being set at 15 45.  Once the BGP session established between these two , which bgp timer will be used for the bgp session ?

thank you. :)

Hi.

BGP will negotiate the hold time with the neighbour and the smaller of the two hold times will be chosen. In this instance the hold time will be 15  between the neighbours.

Hope this helps

Hi

As Willwetherman mentioned both routers are going to negotiate the hold time and the lowest will be selected. In this case 15 will be used. Now is not recommeded to change the BGP timers only if it is required and also the keepalive must be the third part of the hold time.

:-)
