Cisco 2811 router crashing on boot up.

Hi support,

I have a Cisco 2811 router that keeps crashing whenever i boot it up. I realised that it is due to some missing cards that were registered on the PCI Bus.

Is there a possible way of makin it not refer to its cnfigrations during boot up. It had some configs for FXO and FXS cards which presently are not homed on the appliance and i dnt hv access to those cards.

I have tried resetting the box but still nothing works. Below is the crash info i get. Note that after crashin it goes to a reboot cycle.

hi,

your IOS might be corruped. kindy open a Cisco TAC case as per your output.

Hi i had same issue same type of errors then i removed all modules now router is working fine one of the module was causing issue

I agree with John, your IOS may be corrupted. Or the version of IOS you're using isn't compatible with the hardware. You should check the Cisco IOS software builder tool, to first make sure it's compatible. If it is or it was used before, try re-installing the IOS on flash. Check your boot statements in Rommon to make sure it's not pointing to a image that isn't there.

Keep in mind the boot-up process for a Cisco router. I love the 2811 routers, very stable and ok on processing. But everytime, I had a bootup issue it was related to IOS boot statements showing one thing, but Rommon showing something else.

Try removing all NM/NME and WIC/HWIC cards first.

The crash isn't due to a corrupt image. The problem here is related to the hardware attached to the PCI bus.

If reseating the modules still results in a crash then one of the modules may be bad.

Possibly, but if I had a module in one of my routers it would boot up but when you check the controller or device status you wouldn't see the card. And since the modules he has are compatible with the 2811, I can't see a module preventing the system from booting completely. But anything is possible. I guess that is what Cisco TAC is for... to read the bit errors.
