Hello everyone,

I have two cisco 3750 switches that are on stack with the below config

Switch# Role Mac Address Priority State
--------------------------------------------------------
*3 Master 0017.5ae7.d500 1 Ready
4 Member c062.6b8c.f200 1 Ready

i would like to change switch 4 to Master

i think that i can change priority to make the fourth switch is the master , the question is should i reboot the switch after changing the priority ?

and when i run the reboot command did the two switches reboot or just the master one ?

Note : the switches are in Prod env

Thanks,

Master priority only comes into play during a stack election.  To switch the master all you need to do is just reboot or power cycle the current master or reboot the stack after setting the priority higher on the switch you want to be master.  Assuming you want the member switch to be the preferred master you would set it with the highest priority, but again, that only guarantees it becoming master among all switches participating in the stack election.  It doesn't preempt.

Since you mentioned this stack is active prod, the master role can migrate to the member switch, hitless, but multiple conditions need to be met.
