Stackwise on 3850's

Can someone help me understand what the heck I’m doing wrong?!?

I go to configure (2) WS-C3850-48T’s in a stack.

I want Switch_A to be “primary” so I power it up first, verify OS version and licensing after POST, initialize the switch (“switch 1 provision WS-C3850-48T”) and then rig the election so it is always primary (“switch 1 priority 15).

Next, I power up Switch_B, verify OS version and licensing after POST to make sure we match with Switch_A, initialize the switch (“switch 2 provision WS-C3850-48T”).

Next, I plug in Stackwise cable according to….
https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/catalyst3850/hardware/installation/guide/b_c3850_hig/b_c3850_hig_chapter_010.html

What happens after the stack synchronizes is Switch_B becomes (switch1) and Switch_A becomes (switch2).

Why is this happening?

Thx for any help.

Before you bring up switch-b, can you turn it off, connect the stacking cable and then turn it back on and test again?

HTH

No, I can't. I've left customer location.

And they are OK with the way it is.

It's just that I don't understand why.
