ws-g5483= Compatibility

I am having a problem with a ws-g5483= (Copper GBIC) that I have deployed into a Catalyst 6509. The interface will not activate and I do not think it is a problem with the cabling or the LAN Switch (C3750) that it is connected to. It is not a hardware fault as I have the same issue on 4 Ports across two Switches. My onsite engineer used a tester and he says there is no communication coming out of the transceiver.

The ws-g5483= GBIC is installed into a ws-x6516-gbic (16 Port GBIC Module) and the Supervisor is a ws-x6k-sup2-2ge running CATos 8.3(3).

The GBIC is recognised when I show the port but the port is in a 'notconnect' status

Port Name Status Vlan Duplex Speed Type

----- -------------------- ---------- ---------- ------ ----------- ------------

7/10 RDUKGLOUCOMA001 notconnect 1 full 1000 1000BaseT

I have the same problem on ports set as either a access or trunk port

In this example both 7/10 and 8/10 have been enabled

clear trunk 7/10 1-723,725-4094

set trunk 7/10 on dot1q 724

set spantree portfast 7/10 disable

set spantree guard root 7/10

set vlan 725 8/10

set spantree portfast 8/10 disable

set spantree guard none 8/10

I cannot find anything on CCO to say that it is a hardware or software compatibility issue. I'm hoping it is a simple configuration issue !!!

The GBIC module WS-G5483 is very much compatible with the WS-X6K-SUP1A-2GE. For copper support instead of using GBIC, use linecards with multiple ports.

The other GBICs compatible with the WS-X6K-SUP1A-2GE are WS-G5484, WS-G5486, WS-G5487. These modules are supported by the CatOS software 7.2 and by the Cisco IOS? Software 12.1(13)E. Also, the Cisco CWDM GBIC and Cisco DWDM GBICS are supported with WS-X6K-SUP1A-2GE. Yes the problem is in your configuration part.
