SX80 Touch panel required error message

After I upgraded my SX80 to 8.3.1, we now have a "Touch panel required" error message on the screen that will not go away. What is the fix for this? Downgrade to previous software version?

It's a bug and is fixed in CE9, or downgrade to CE8.2 if upgrading isn't an option.  It's also mentioned in a recent thread: ce83-screen-shows-touch-panel-required-error-home-page.
