I know that changing the first NTP server will affect the license for UCCX and CUCM. Is this true for adding or modifying the second NTP server?

I want add a second NTP server and I want to avoid re-licensing.

Thank you!

If its version 9.X or 10.X then it should not as license are tied with ELM/PLM:

Ref: https://supportforums.cisco.com/document/115166/licensing-architecture-cisco-unified-communication-manager-cucm-version-9x-faq-live#Q:_What_are_the_benefits_of_this_licensing_structure_over_the_previous_DLU_structure

In case of VMWARE, use 8 to 9 parameters to generate a license MAC. Even if you change any one of the parameters, such as NTP Address or the Time Zone, the license MAC will change. Then, you need to procure new licenses. However, with this Enterprise License Manager in place, even if you made those changes you do not have to worry about the licenses. There is a product instance that has already been added to the ELM. Even if you make any changes, it will grab the required license from ELM.

If its CUCM version 8.X then also it shouldn't technically as licensing is tied with NTP1 and NTP 2 is not mentioned:

Ref: http://docwiki.cisco.com/wiki/Licensing_Model_for_Virtualized_UC_Applications

A License MAC is in the same format as a physical MAC address, i.e. a 12 digit hexadecimal value, but it is generated by hashing the following user-configured parameters:

  • Time zone
  • NTP server 1 (or “none”)
  • NIC speed (or “auto”)
  • Hostname
  • IP Address (or “dhcp”)
  • IP Mask (or “dhcp”)
  • Gateway Address (or “dhcp”)
  • Primary DNS (or “dhcp”)
  • SMTP server (or “none”)
  • Certificate Information (Organization, Unit, Location, State, Country)

for CUCM version 8 on VM

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/virtual/CUCM_BK_CF3D71B4_00_cucm_virtual_servers/CUCM_BK_CF3D71B4_00_cucm_virtual_servers_chapter_0100.html

When you change any of the parameters that create the license MAC, the license that you obtained with it becomes invalid. You must request a rehosting of the license to obtain a valid license. The old license continues to work for a 30-day grace period

License MAC has only NTP server 1 and not NTP server 2.

regds,

At this point I'm worried only about Call Manager.  We are running version 9.1.2.12901-3 on MCS server not virtual.

So looks like adding a second  NTP server will not change anything.

Thank you for your help!

Eugen

Hi Eugen,

You can add second NTP server. In this case, License MAC won't come in picture.

Thank you Aman!
