Video Infrastructure Refresh

Hello,

My name is Paul Depperschmidt and I work in the Collaboration Business Development team.  Today we are focused on Refreshing our Video Infrastructure.

Hopefully you are already aware, but we have made some major changes in direction for this area over the last few years.  Primarily we are moving from dedicated hardware video boxes to running our infrastructure on servers.  This allows us to take advantage of new technology advances and provides the IT Managers (who now are the primary owners of video) a familiar platform to work with.

While we can still provide the "big iron" MCU systems when they are needed, the move to server based systems offers a significant upgrade in capability and reduced costs.  Many customers are now considering their next move to provide multi-point video to their organizations.  And we have an answer for that.  A new TMP program focused on replacing the old MCU's with the new Virtual TelePresence Servers.

If you have any questions about this program or any aspects of Refreshing Video Infrastructure, please ask a question.  We are here to help.

Hi,

We are using MSE 8510 blades as MCU, so I would like to know about Virtual MCU details (Pre-requisites, Scalability, licensing details and other feature informations). Is this Cisco Virtual MCU platform is readily available in market or in beta version.

Rohith,

We offer a virtualized version of the Telepresence server (vTS) that has been on the market for about 24 months. It requires Conductor to operate when used along with the new MM820 blade, the MM310 or MM320 appliances, or any vTS. There is not a virtualized version of the MCU (MM5300 or MSE8510 software) nor do we plan to bring one to the market. If you are interested in seeing the functionality of the vTS platform you can download the Conductor from CCO. This version supports a single bridge but can be upgraded to a limited capacity and full version with a purchased release key. As for the virtual TS, you can download the software form CCO also and install it, but it will require screen licenses to operate. Cisco can provide demo keys that are good up to 90 days. Lastly, before you install the software verify the hardware meetings the specifications, particularly for the vTS.

Thanks,

Richard
