Prime Infrastructure ordering question

ipvoiipvoi

Hello All,

I have a customer with LMS 3.2 (100 devices license) and WCS 7.0 (100 device license) with less than 100 devices total on both products.

Do we need to purchase Upgrade :

R-PI12-UP-K9 / LMS 2.x/3.x to Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2 Major Upgrade

AND

R-W-PI12-M-K9 / WCS 7.0 to Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2 Migration

Or just one of the 2 upgrade option.

The fact is, PI is a single server for the 2 products with a mutualized licensing device count.

If we upgrade for just one product with enough devices license, it should be enough.

Is it a correct behavior regarding Cisco licensing for PI ?

Thanks

Hi,

You will need to purchase both the Major upgrade for LMS and the WCS migraton license. Please check example 5 from the link below.

"When a customer owns multiple products for which there is an upgrade path to Cisco Prime Infrastructure, then simply purchase the appropriate upgrade part numbers for each product to obtain the total Cisco Prime Infrastructure entitlement."

Regards,

Wilson

Hello Wilson,

Thanks for your answer. But I've received a parallel answer from a Cisco guy that told me the opposite.

That as long as you have enough licenses you don't have to buy both.

I'll have to work on it.

If the customer only needs to manage 100 or fewer devices, then yes, they can simply exercise one of the possible upgrade paths.  Currently it is a better deal to upgrade from WCS which is a fixed $1995 list price upgrade.  In the upgrade you'll receive 100 device licenses for Prime Infrastructure 1.2 and 100 device licenses for LMS 4.2.  But still the entitlement is to manage no more than 100 devices using PI and/or LMS as needed.

Hello,

Thanks for the confirmation.

Best Regards

I have the same Migration

Cisco LMS 2x/3x to Prime NCS 1.2

Cisco WCS 7.0 to Prime NCS 1.2

I am using below mentioend about surity i am not sure because i have just found it on over the internet

Please let me know if it can help you

WCS 7.0 Migration to NCS 1.2

Part Number 1: Migration of Data

Exporting WCS Data

To export WCS data, follow these steps:

Step 1: Stop the WCS server.

Step 2: Run the export command through the script file and provide the path and export file name when prompted.

Step 3: For Linux, run export.sh all /data/wcs.zip. For Windows, run export.bat all \data\wcs.zip.

Migrating WCS Data to NCS

To migrate WCS data, follow these steps:

Step 1 Place the WCS export .zip file (for example, wcs.zip) in a repository or folder (for example, repositories).

Step 2 Log in as admin user and stop the NCS server by entering the ncs stop command.

Step 3 Configure the FTP repository on the NCS Appliance by entering the repository command:

                  ncs-appliance/admin#configure

                  ncs-appliance/admin(config)#repository ncs-ftp-repo

                  ncs-appliance/admin(config-Repository)#url ftp://x.x.x.x//

                  ncs-appliance/admin(config-Repository)#user ftp-user password plain ftp-user

"Make sure the archived file is available using the show repository name command."

Step 4 Enter the ncs migrate command to restore the WCS database.

            ncs-appliance/admin# ncs migrate wcs-data wcs.zip repository ncs-ftp-repo

By default, no WCS events are migrated.

Step 5 Enter the ncs start command to start the NCS server after the upgrade is completed.

Step 6 Log in to the NCS user interface using the root login and the root password.

Non-upgradable Data

The following data are not upgradable from WCS to NCS:

• Certain Reports (Client Count, Client Summary, Client Traffic, PCI Report, PCI Compliance Detailed and Summary reports, Preferred Call Network Summary report, Rogue APs, Adhoc Rogues, New Adhoc Rogues and Security Summary      reports).

• Dashboard customization

• Client Station Statistics information will not be populated with old WCS data in clients charts, client details page, dashboards and reports.

• Client historical session information does get upgraded.

• All events from 7.0 are completely dropped and are not migrated to NCS.

• RADIUS/TACACS server IP and credentials are not migrated and need to be readded again after migration is complete.

Part Number 2: Migration of License

Please apply the L-WCS-NCS1-M-K9 license first, before adding the licenses migrated from your WCS installation; the licenses migrated from WCS are generated as "ADD" licenses and they can't be applied before the L-WCS-NCS1-M-K9 is applied.

Migration Step 1: Obtain the XML File from Your Existing WCS Deployment

1.     Using Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Internet Explorer, or Google Chrome, log in to the WCS server (Version 7.0.164.0 or later) and select Administration > License Center.

2.     In the left pane, select "File."

3.     Select the "WCS File" link, and then use the "Export" option. An XML file will be generated.

4.     Save the XML file to your local machine.

Migration Step 2: Upload the Contents of the XML File to the Cisco.com Migration Webpage

1.     Go to: http://www.cisco.com/go/license.

2.     Scroll down to the "Migration" section and select the "Register for Upgrade/Migrate License" option.

3.     Select "NCS 1.0" from the drop-down menu, and select "Proceed."

4.     Enter you "Product ID" and "Serial Number."

5.     Open the saved XML file in a text editor and copy the contents of the file.

6.     Paste the copied content in the text box.

7.     Accept the end-user license agreement (EULA).

8.     Verify your contact information and select "Continue."

9.     The migration webpage will generate the new license, which will be emailed to you

Migration Step 3: Apply the New License to Cisco Prime NCS

1.     As mentioned in step 2-9, the license file is distributed to you in an email from Cisco. Do not edit the contents of the .lic file in any way or you will render the file useless.

2.     Log in to Cisco NCS.

3.     Select Administration > License Center.

4.     Use the File menu in the left pane to add new licenses

LMS2/3 Migration to NCS 1.2

Trying to Find out exact Release Note

As a quick clarification as of Prime Infrastructure 1.1 and 1.2 you no longer need to migrate your old WCS license files.  You will receive new license files for use with NCS 1.1 or PI 1.2 when you order the upgrade.

Hello,

Customer would like t order PI 1.3 licenses, but they are not on the GPL, or do they use a different part number nomenclature?

Thanks!

There will not be any new PIDs introduced for PI 1.3. If customers would like to get PI 1.3, then order PI 1.2 with a service contract and then download PI 1.3 which is posted on Cisco.com. Existing customers with a valid service contract can also download PI 1.3. Customers without a service contract should buy a service contract to gain access to PI 1.3.

/Doug.

Thanks Doug!
