External Phone Number Mask and Call Routing

birnit

We have discovered that if we do not configure an External Phone Number Mask on a DN, the set will not be able to dial a 1-8XX phone number.   The phone can dial out to long distance numbers.   The Route Pattern for the 1-8XX numbers are set up similar to Route Patterns set up for Long distance.  If an external phone number mask is entered in the DN config the phone can dial 1-8XX numbers.  What is the relationship between the External Phone Number Mask and Call Routing?

The difference between normal long distance and 1-8xx is that 8xx number are paid for by the called party...not the calling party.  As such, some toll free services require a valid number to call the service.  Many people do not realize that even if your number is blocked or unlisted, when you call toll free numbers, you calling party number cannot be blocked since you are not paying for the call.

with that said, one easy way to fix the issue it so set up a route pattern with the 1-8xx and set the calling party mask to either make the calling party a fully qualified number or you can mask the called party to your company DN.

Thank you.  I did get similar advice  elsewhere and resolved the issue by entering an external phone mask number.  We had removed our default DN from the screening tables on our PRI so no number is sent out if we don't have it configured on the DN exernal phone mask.

Thank you.

Have you tried running the call in DNA, this will the routet and transformations that happends.
