Question on migrating 5505 redundant licensing to HA licensing

Hello, Cisco guru out there.

I have a customer who owns two 5508 with 50 AP licenses each.

at this point, one is the back up for other. each one has 25 APs registered to it.

What I want to find out is how can they migrate dual 50 AP licenses into one 100 AP license with HA?

Is that even possible? if so, what is the process of migrating the license?

Also what would be more standard practice if they are to have more APs.

having two of same total AP number licensing and server half per WLC?

or have all AP server through one WLC and have HA licensing on the other.

One more thing is what is the distance requirement for L2 HA cable?

Is the only option is copper cable thus 100 meters?

Thank you

Hello,

If you have a 5508; it needs 50 AP licenses or more to convert into -HA SKU:

Only adder licenses on the same model can be migrated from one controller to the other

The following deployment guide shows you that with the 7.5 release; you can have geo-separated L2 adjacent controllers in Active-Standby 1:1 mode:
