BLF Call Pickup for CME

The BLF Call Pickup feature that exists in the full Cisco Unified Communications Manager would be a very welcome enhancement to the extremely limited BLF speed dial feature in Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express (CME).

It only shows a very simple on/off hook status for the lines being monitored, it cannot for example flash a button when the line is ringing or take advantage of the different coloured LEDs available on the lighted buttons. Nor can it pick up a ringing call when that line is ringing, or indicate the voicemail status with the envelope icon. It seems an amazing oversight that this feature exists on several 20-year-old non-IP PBXs.

All of the above I believe is possible with the full CUCM or third-party platforms like Asterisk. None of the"m", "w" and "s" button modes in CME provide any sort of adequate solution to this requirement, for example, the "s" mode buttons cannot be used for speed-dialling and all calls on any of the monitored lines will come into that phone (which is a privacy issue), while the "m" and "w" button modes don't even work as documented.

This issue has been discussed in the support forums in at least four threads:

https://supportforums.cisco.com/message/3472503
https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/311684
https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/2014556
https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/2002660

I am wondering if Cisco are aware of this feature request or if there are any plans to enhance the CME functionality in this area?

Hello Edward,

It sounds like you would like to request feature enhancements for CME. I took a look at the community threads you have posted and have an understanding of what you are looking for regarding BLF-speed-dial feature support. I'd like to extend my email adddress so you can contact me directly and we can have a discussion on the enhancements you are looking for on CME.

Hello Tony/Edward,

I only found this thread today but been battling with the same issue for a long time. Lack of this feature caused removal of UC560 deployment in a favor of other vendor product. BLF pickup with full presence of extension status is a key feature and in many cases a deal breaker. Has there been any progress on adding this feature to CME? CME needs to be able to identify following statuses of monitored extension:

- free

- busy

- ringing

- holding

- user needs to be able to pickup a call just by pressing ringing extension.

All CISCO SPA phones support all those features with third party PBXs running in SIP mode.

Please let me know you have come up with some conclusion.

Thanks,

Konrad

Hello Konrad,

Our CME product team has taken this requirement and added to its roadmap. But we don't have solidified plans on when this feature will be delivered.

Apologize for the not so solid answer, our team is working on roadmap priorities and I will bring this feature up again.

regards

Tony
