Hi everyone,

I have to upgrade Unified communications system CUCM, CUC, UCCX from 9.1.2 to 11.5.

I would like to know the step by step procedure to upgrade, I have all the licenses.

I have create this step by step:

1. Deploy OVA's for version 11.x CUCM, CUC and UCCX

2. Install CUCM on version 9.1.2 and restore the cluster backup, the same for CUC and UCCX.

Now I need to know the upgrade procedure, ".iso" and "cop" files I need.

thank you in advanced

Alfredo.

Hi Kelli,

Thanks for your answer, I am going to read all those docs you recommend me, I have seen only refer CUCM, I need upgrade CUC and UCCX too, all my customer System.

I have a doubt about the step by step with CUCM and UCCX upgrade process.

Can I upgrade CUCM first and UCCX later?

My upgrade will be virtual to virtual

Let me know if you still need help.

I recently did an upgrade from UCCX 10.6 to 11.6. I did run into a couple issues and I am sure you will also. I know you are going from 9.1.2 to 11.5. You can also open a Cisco TAC case as you may need to apply special cop files prior to the upgrades. I have also read that you should update to the latest SU package of your current version. You do not need to download the OVAs if you are upgrading. You will only modify your current settings in VMware (I would think you are using).

Check this site out, this is for UCCX but CUCM and CUC will have there own similar links. Unified CCX Software Compatibility Matrix for 11.6(1) - Cisco

Also, I big lesson I have learned from my own experience, treat each Product as its own, meaning. CUCM is separate from CUC and which are both Separate from UCCX and SocialMiner and SocialMiner is separate from UCCX.

So when performing upgrades, I would work one product at a time so you do not mess anything up. So in cluster environments, start with CUCM only, apply latest 9.1.2 SUs  on the Publisher and reboot. Do not start anything on the Subscribers until Publisher has completely rebooted and all services are started. Then you may apply the SUs to the Subscribers either one at a time or both. If you require phones 24/7, I recommend doing one at a time, so phones will fail back and forth between the nodes during the SU updates. After all is completed shutdown the the CUCM Publisher and update the Memory Requirements if there are any. I have posted links for UCCX 11.6.

Take your time and it does take a long time depending on how many servers are in your cluster.

Make sure to take backups prior to any changes or upgrades. Make sure you have the bootable image of your current version of the products as well. Take another backup after successful upgrades of your SUs as well and take another backup after successful upgrades to the major version. Do the backups after all nodes have been upgraded successfully.

Follow the guides that Cisco has and remember open a TAC case for any cop updates that may be required to the upgrade to major releases as there are many bugs in different versions that prevent upgrades.

I hope this finds you well before your upgrades.
