VM's network connections on UCS Host

Hi, Just curious how most people deploy their collaboration VM's on a UCS host.

Do most of you use a dedicated port for each VM or do you just use the virtual switch on ESXi?

We have been using a virtual switch but using the Cisco Virtual Machine Placement tool suggests we should have a dedicated ethernet connection(s).

Thanks in advance

VMPT is tallying sum of the virtual nics. That may or may not correspond to a physical link count.

Defer to the network experts out there, but what I see most often is small deployments just doing one pair of physical interlinks per esxihost.

Larger deployments unless something’s changed recently multiple links but outside of link redundancy mainly for things like trunking (there are only a few VMs in the Collab portfolio that are so network-access-hungry they need their own physical link … for lots of VMs at higher user counts you have enough network traffic to justify multiple links but those aren’t usually dedicated to individual VMs).

Other best practices at https://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/uc_system/virtualization/virtualization-qos-designs-considerations.html .
