Convert from EIGRP to OSPF.

In our environment we have a mix of Cisco and non Cisco appliances. Those non Cisco appliances do not support EIGRP. So now we have an environment that is a mix of EIGRP and a lot of Static Routes. We are looking to convert to OSPF so we can run one routing protocol throughout the environment. We've already mapped out how many areas we going to have an which devices will be in each area.

Our plan to complete this task includes the following.

  • Input the OSPF network statements.
  • Once all the OSPF network statements have been entered on the necessary equipment raise the AD on the EIGRP routes to have the OSPF routes take precedence.

Am I missing anything?

Hey Cedrik

For what i see your migration process is raising the AD in the protocol, actually a very common approach. Just adding a few think to what you have already in plan:

- Be aware of the redistribution points. (If you have any)

- Check the CPU of the routers (in case are old or are too many routes), to see if you will not have any CPU problems having 2 protocols running.

- At the end of the migration process check for any route learned via the old protocol to add it in OSPF.

- Check that the routes are learned where it should be learned (To avoid Suboptimal path-routing or something like that)

Cheers,

JC
