NGFW Spring 2020 Releases

It’s official! FTD 6.6, ASA 9.14.1, and FXOS 2.8 have been released. We want to thank the hundreds of team members for the tens of thousands of man-hours dedicated to driving this critical release over the finish line. 120 features across 25 initiatives were delivered!

With an abundance of quality and feature improvements, we expect 6.6/ASA 9.14.1 to be a huge hit with customers looking for a better overall experience:

  • 6.6 and ASA 9.14.1 improve the manageability and usability of our offering. An improved deployment workflow allows previewing changes prior to policy pushes. Time-based rules support allows organizations to configure rules that are active only during a specified time of day. The event database has been reworked and optimized for columnar data storage, resulting in significantly faster event-related operations. Major policy troubleshooting and object optimization improvements have been introduced, including the ability to search and filter across columns. And air-gapped networks are now supported with PLR for Firepower Device Manager.
  • These new releases better support large enterprises. VRF allows FTD to support multiple routing instances with different policies, providing much more flexibility for deployments and significantly reducing the need to deploy multiple instances. Multi-instance clustering provides much greater flexibility in high-scale deployments in data centers. And up to 300,000 user identity sessions are now supported.
Our virtual offerings are also significantly enhanced, with larger instances in FMCv for AWS and Azure, and automated horizontal scale on Azure.
  • The modernized UI experience is now enabled by default throughout the UI.
ASA 9.14.1 will add site-to-site VPN IKEv2 support for multiple peer addresses with crypto map support.
