I'm new to Cisco and I would like to know how we can add to our software the ability to place a call from a Cisco IP Phone like the 7911.
Basically, we would place the phone on hand free speaker and dial a number. Next the user could start on hand free or pickup the phone.
Where should we start? Is there any API, SDK or documentation?
Thank you.

Martin,
There are 2 APIs that you can use for third party call control. Cisco JTAPI and Cisco TAPI API.
Take a look at Cisco JTAPI for Cisco JTAPI API. It should contain links to sample app and documentation and Cisco TAPI for Cisco TAPI.
