Factory reset for Cisco IR809G router

Hello,

I need help with a cisco IR809G LTE router.

My project manager swears it is brand new but is asking for a username and password in the USB console.

Could nor find a default username and password and tried every way I found to do a factory reset.

So far any combination of holding the reset button did not reset the router.

         IOS version is 15.7(3)M1

         I am missing something?

         Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

Jorge

Well,

Is working now, none of the Cisco manual methods worked.

        this one did.

  1. Power off the router
  2. While holding the Reset Button, power up the router.
  3. Hold it until you see the "The configuration reset button has been pressed." message.
  4. Quickly press Ctrl+C
  5. Routers goes into rmmon-1>
  6. enter the command "cfgreg 0x2142"  (that will make the router to ignore the startup-config)
  7. enter the command "reboot"
  8. Router will reboot into initial configuration mode, configure the console username, password and enable password.
  9. In config mode enter the command "confiig-register 0x2102", save the configuration and reload the router.

Steve,

          Thanks for your reply.

That method did not work, the console output shows that the reset button has been pressed but then proceeds to a normal boot

If the Cisco IOS® version is 15.6 and later, power off the device and simultaneously press the reset button while you apply power to the device. Hold the reset button for about 30 seconds until the Protocol over Ethernet (PoE) light comes on and then release the button.

If the version of the Cisco IOS® is 15.5(3)M5 or earlier, then the device must be booted to password prompt before you reset the device. Once you see the password prompt, long press the reset button for 30 seconds until this message appears.

I tried it before and it works well. Please make sure to follow the guide. For details, please refer to Cisco IR800 Series Router Factory Default Settings - Cisco.

None of those methods works, and the router being a 809 does not have a POE light.

The router detects the reset button hold but does nothing about it

here is the console output

I don't understand why the cfgreg 0x2142 would work. the regular configuration register of the 809 routers i have used is 0x102 for normal booting..

Today, I was doing a password recovery on an 809, and what worked for me was powering on the router while holding the reset button for a *very* long time. The router responded by what appeared to be a firmware update in progress. It wiped the config, and I was able to start from scratch.

I also tried the <ctrl-c> during boot. That worked in the sense that I was able to boot to rommon-1> mode. When I loaded the SPA module, it went right past rommon-2 and booted the startup config. I must have done something wrong with that process. I'll have to keep playing around with the routers and do more logging to see where I have mis-stepped.

Hi ! I had the same problem. I tried many possible ways to reset default configuration (or recover passwords) but I was failed. This is due to ECC was disabled.

I am happy now. I did the following steps to reset the current configuration to factory default configuration.

1) I Powered off the Router (Cisco 1921).

2) Opened the cover of the router

3) In the motherboard there is a chip named Unigen which is removable. I Carefully  removed the chip with configuration. Then powered on the Router.

4) Router prompted with "no usb flash" error. I pressed enter a couple of times (if required rebooted). I got into Rommon Mode.

5) Then, I changed it's registry into confreg 0x2142 and then gave reset command.

6) After a while, I powered off the router, put the card back into it's place and powered on the router.

7) Now I don't get any previous configuration. I get my router as it was when I bought it.
