Cisco Catalyst 9600 - Factory Reset

Hi all,

I have locked myself out of the switch, more specifically, I can't enable.

Every method of password recovery I have tried has failed.

I do not know how to factory reset my two stackwise-enabled switches.

I need a password recovery procedure that works with a CISCO CATALYST 9600 series switch.

If not, then...

I need to be able to reset this device WITHOUT USING ANY CLI (except ROMMON).

I have a micro-USB cable *ONLY*, I do NOT have a console cable.

Please do not mention a "Mode Button"; the Cisco 9600 doesn't have one.

Thank you for your help.

Are you able to break the VSS?

Can you boot one of the cards into ROMMON?

Yes I am able to log into ROMMON by ctrl^c during bootup. However when the rommon1> appears the device freezes.

Does this occur to both supervisor cards?

Not entirely sure. I have not tried the 2nd chassis yet

Okay disregard, I'm able to get the device into ROMMON mode when I shorten the length of the USB cable (for some reason).

What is the next step?

I'm fine with either a password recovery option OR a total factory reset.

Yes they are stacked; there's two switches. They are both set up such that the first 2 blades are 48-port SFP blades and the third blade is the supervisory module (from top to bottom). The remaining are blank/empty/placeholder blades (whatever they're called).

Switch#copy startup-config running-config
% Copy to running-config failed because configuration changes are locked

It looks like the changes were unlocked when the VSS switch 2 re-synched with the switch I was logged into (Switch 1).

Alright I have created a new username and password with privilege level 15. I have created enable secret with the same exact password. I hope this works...
